In-Person and On-Line!
High Plains Fair Housing Center is excited to open our annual in-person and virtual Fair Housing Month Event to sponsors this year and we would love for you to join us! We are providing a free public screening at the Indigenous Association in Fargo, ND of Newsday’s documentary about racial steering by real estate agents in Long Island, NY titled Testing the Divide. Joining us virtually is Pulitzer Prize winner and one of the lead reporters on Newsday's undercover investigation, Long Island Divided, Bill Dedman. Newsday revealed that Long Island's dominant residential real estate brokerages help reinforce racial segregation through illegal steering of customers. Our event will watch what took place and discuss housing discrimination nationwide and in North Dakota today.
The event will take place on the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act in Fargo from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Attendees will be able to join us in-person or virtually. It will open with a screening of the documentary followed by a presentation and panel discussion by Bill Dedman and North Dakota housing advocates.
